Milestone birthdays, done your way
A 30th, 40th or 50th birthday asks for something different than a backyard party, and the room on Guild St gives you both formats without switching venues. Book a cocktail-style layout with the bar area and lounge corner open for mingling, or set the long dark-wood tables for a seated dinner with your own caterer. Either way you're working with a room built for 15 to 50 guests, not a rental hall built for 200.
Cocktail-style birthdays tend to run the whole room, with the grazing table doing double duty as a food station and the bar area stocked by whoever you hire. Seated dinners use the four dining tables and forty-five chairs, arranged however your caterer or planner sets them. Both setups keep the string lights and exposed brick as the backdrop, so the room does a lot of the decorating on its own before anyone touches a balloon.

Kids' birthdays with a real theme
Kids' birthdays get the whitewashed walls as a blank canvas, so a theme reads without you covering every inch of brick. Past parties have leaned on the balloon arch as the photo spot, with the chalkboard doing sign duty for whatever the theme calls for that year. The grazing table handles snacks while the bar area holds juice, punch or whatever the parents are serving.
Because it's an open vendor policy, you're not stuck with a house baker or a fixed decor package. Bring your own baker for a themed cake, your own florist or balloon stylist, and set up however the birthday kid wants it. The room in La Mesa holds 15 to 50 guests comfortably, so it works for a small class party or a bigger family blowout without feeling empty either way.
Chapter 03
Surprise parties, planned to the minute
A surprise only works if the timing holds, and the room gives you a couple of ways to control that. Book the daytime slot, 8am to 4pm, if the guest of honor is out of the house for the day, or take the evening slot, 5pm to midnight, and have everyone seated before they arrive. Either way, call (619) 467-8401 ahead of time and walk through when your group needs to be inside and quiet.
The sliding barn doors on the front of the building are part of the plan too. Keep them rolled shut while guests sneak in through the side, then open them wide once the surprise lands, so the room reads from the street the moment everyone's inside. It's a detail that photographs well and gives the reveal an actual moment instead of just a shout in a doorway.
Balloon arch, tables and chairs, ready before you arrive
You don't need to source party rentals separately. A three-color balloon arch is $250 and becomes the photo backdrop most hosts build the party around. Four dining tables and forty-five chairs rent for $150, or come included automatically with All Day Access. Either way, everything's set up in the room before your first guest walks in, so you're not hauling folding tables through the barn doors yourself.
That's on top of what's already in the room: the chalkboard, the bar area and the grazing table come with every booking, no extra line item. Hourly rental runs $149 an hour with a 4-hour minimum, and there's a discounted rate if you can hold a Monday-through-Thursday date.
